There will be times when we share God’s truth with those who have deliberately turned their backs on God. When we do, we should not be surprised if we are identified as stupid and crazy. The children of Israel were so trapped in sin that those who spoke because God inspired them were considered crazy fools. If we look at it from God’s perspective, their men were watchmen warning the Israelites of coming judgment. These divine emissaries were heard but rejected, and the people themselves were without excuses. As Hosea warned, “The days of punishment have come; the days of recompense have come.” (verse 7)
Paul faced a similar charge when he shared his conversion story before the governor of Caesarea: And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.” But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking true and rational words (Acts 26:24-25). In today’s world, we should not be surprised that those who speak boldly before unbelievers will sometimes face this type of prosecution.
