As we examine this Psalm, one important fact needs to be understood: it is one of the most elaborate acrostic psalms. It has twenty-two stanzas, one for each letter in the Hebrew alphabet, and each verse within each stanza begins with one of the Hebrew letters in sequence. An example is the first eight verses begin with the letter aleph , and the next eight verses begin with the letter beth. In the first stanza, there is a key to finding the right way to fulfill this life, “Blessed are those …who walk in the law of the Lord!” There is no ‘magic’ wand to wave to find happiness, and there is not a superficial elation that needs to be harnessed. It is a simple task that requires a few moments to find a deep-rooted sense of confidence and well-being that can only come from the Word of God. Happiness doesn’t happen immediately, but in time, growth comes from obedience. James gives us a reminder: But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing (James 1:25). The only true source of happiness is found in the written Word of God, and for those who will obey it.
Blessings–
